![]() ![]() The pride that stems from cracking a tough problem stems from a more substantial place than the vast majority of games in this genre because you haven't just bested the game's designer-you've bested yourself. The result is a puzzle game where you feel a distinct sense of ownership over your solutions. You are given tools and a goal and told to build your own way to it. At the beginning of the game, you are abducted by aliens and set to work building factories in a variety of isolated sci-fi locales: the surface of asteroids, dystopian cityscapes, floating platforms among fleets of blocky starships.Īs in Spacechem, the genius of the game is that there are no 'fixed' solutions to problems. The name invokes Infiniminer, the game that inspired Minecraft, but Infinifactory isn't a sandbox in the same sense even though it controls much like Minecraft's creative mode. This is a first-person puzzle game where you construct logic-driven machines using blocky components. The game is a showcase for imagination as well as intellect. Solving a problem in Infinifactory is a creative challenge as well as an intellectual one. It's so good, in fact, that it moves beyond its genre and starts to yield benefits from elsewhere. Judged on those terms, Infinifactory is a very good puzzle game. The quality of these games is determined by the way you feel when you move past confusion into understanding-how excitedly you punch the air when it all clicks into place, how many honorary doctorates you consider granting yourself when a designer's logic reveals itself to you. Complex, block-based factory construction game. And of course I have a save.dat file, which is whichever run I did last. I have an "Overlord completed save.dat" for whenever I want to do a run of the resistance campaign. I have my "Original save.dat" with my first playthrough strats and the schematics I initially fooled around when figuring out how to speedrun this game. Personally, I keep multiple save files under different names for various purposes. Simply delete or move the new solution to fix the problem). If a solution is misplaced in the file, the game won't boot up. This means you can transfer solutions between save files (although you should be careful. If you look around in that save.dat file, you can see some neat things, like whether some story progress have been triggered, the location of your precious food pellets and what your puzzles solutions look like when put in hexadecimal(I think?) code. It's similar on other versions of Windows, but I don't know about Macs):ġ° go to Documents/My Games/Infinifactory/Ģ° Open the save.dat file in notepad or whatever.ģ° Delete all lines of text EXCEPT the "UniquePlayerID = " line, which is the second to last line in the file.Ħ° Profit (aka WR in the speedrunning world) That's a kind of a problem for speedrunning, 'cause we need to reset our progress in order to even start a run, so here's how to actually reset your progress (on Windows 10, anyway. It also innately does not feature any kind of save file management options, which means that you cannot delete your progress in-game. Infinifactory functions off a single save file.
